Shri V K Sreekandan’s political journey commenced in 1983 as President of the KSU (Kerala Students Union) unit of
Govt High School, Shoranur. A couple of years after, the organization entrusted the activities of the Ottappalam Taluk
in him in the capacity of the Secretary of the region. Three years, in 1988, Sreekandan’s leadership qualities stood
with him in god stead and he was honoured to head the Ottapalam Taluk as President.
A few years of commitment and hard work on his part inspired the student organization to respect him with the
comparatively heavier responsibility of the post of General Secretary of Kerala Students Union, Palakkad District. The graph of Sreekandan’s political future marked a steep rise in 1993 when he was chosen to lead the Kerala
Students Union as its Vice President. At the turn of the century Sreekandan’s popularity as a leader saw new heights
when he was elected consecutively in 2000, 2005 and 2010 to govern the Shoranur Municipality as a councillor.
This young student leader and politician found new horizons in the years that followed and rose to the enviable status
of national leadership on being appointed By Smt Sonia Gandhi , Hon’ble President of AICC as the All India General
Secretary of Indian Youth Congress under the able leadership of Shri Randeep Singh Surjewala . He remained in this
position for four years and was given organizational charge of Andhra Pradesh , Tamil Nadu . Pondichery . Goa
Laksha dweep and Andaman Nicobar .
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee admired the potentiality of Sreekandan and inducted him into the
Executive Committee of the KPCC. He was chosen and fielded as Congress candidate for the Ottapalam
constituency in the 2011 Assembly elections. KPCC honoured him again by appointing him as one of the secretaries
in 2012. On 2016 He Appointed as District Congress Committee President for Palakkad, the position he continues to hold . He is presently on the senate of Calicut University and also General
Council of Kerala Agricultural University .Sreekandan is also a Member of Parliament of the 17th Lok Sabha of India from Palakkad Lok Sabha constituency.
